During the '96-'97 Brownie year, our troop caught wind of an idea floating around our small community to update our city park. We took a vote and decided to try to make this idea a reality, and began collecting pennies. We called our Champaign "Pennies for the Park."
In May 1997 our troop presented the newly formed Carlton Park Improvement Committee with a check for $100.00, collected one penny at a time! This money became the "seed" money for what was eventually a $50,000.00 park improvement project! Phase one of this project was completed in November 1997 and included two brand new play structures. A preschool commercial structure manufactured by Little Tikes was installed, along with a second play structure manufactured by Landscape Resources!
