3-D Modeling      Image Retouching    Assorted Graphics

This particlar image took several hours to retouch, it had several major creases, the upper left corner had been torn off and was ripped almost completely in half.

Not every photo will retouch as well as this one did, but some come out even better than the original.

I'm using an animated gif to display some of the steps used in retoching this photo, and as gifs only allow for a maximum of 256 colors within their pallette it displays more grainyness that the actual completed image.

Colorization can be used to actcentuate areas with-in an image; black and white or monochrome work best, using just one or two areas of colorization. The actual color and it's intensity can be modified as necessary.

This sample depicts more colorization than most images and shows several areas of manipulation.

  • The sky has been replaced with a realistic color version including clouds and a daylight moon., This moon however should actually appear as full rather than 3/4 + because the camera, sun and moon lie in the same vertical plane. Attention to detail is important when adding extra information into images.
  • Flesh tones and brown highlights were added to the hair in very minimal amounts. Skin is one of the more difficult items to colorize but we know this gentleman was well tanned in his youth.
  • Green hills may be a little unrealistic for late summer in southern California, but we don't really know what color his pants were either.
  • Speaking of pants, I thought it was interesting to see that the 1990's generation of children weren't the first to display thier underwear.
  • Water can be colored in a wide variety of tones, we went with a green tinge for this image. What color were fire hydrants in the 1930's, anyone remember?
