SP&S Issued

Postcard book circa 1910

Throughout the life of the SP&S, I believe that several series of postcards were issued by the railroad itself, or with it's permission, to act as advertising and to promote travel.   What I am calling Series 1 and 2 cards are high quality color and are clearly marked for the North Bank Road and usually have the photographer's copyright.  Series 3 cards are of lesser quality imaging, with the identification made in red lettering.  Series 4 cards are white-border cards with better printing and captioning than Series 3.   Series 1, 2, 3 and 4 are assumed to be issued by the SP&S by virtue of the images being stock company photos used elsewhere in company advertising.  It seems unlikely that the railroad would have allowed a photographer to sell to an independent postcard maker, working both sides of the fence as it were.  Series 5 cards are some of the same images as the previous series, plus more newer images.  These are the linen type cards with the railroad herald printed on the back side.  Note that there are 5 different card backs, suggesting at least that many different printings.
