Oregon Electric Railway The Oregon Electric Railway was formed on May 14, 1906 as holding company for the Willamette Valley Traction and related companies building an electric interurban from Portland to Salem, Oregon. James J. Hill picked up the line on February 2, 1910 and assigned it to the SP&S on March 3, 1911. The line was dieselized in 1945. Though operated as a part of the SP&S, the OE remained a separate company until after the BN merger. As part of the corporate restructuring, the OE survived on paper until 1981.
